New Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry Thought Dallas Cowboys Were 'Perfect Situation'

The best free agent running back on the market thought for certain he was headed to the Dallas Cowboys ... until they didn't even call.

After leading the league in rushing last season, the Baltimore Ravens snagged the best running back on the open market in former Tennessee Titan Derrick Henry.

Henry was almost a Raven last season at the trade deadline, but a deal could not be reached between the Tennessee and Baltimore in time. Therefore, Henry already knew there was interest from the Ravens before free agency even started.

But there was another team he had hoped to hear from, that he thought would be a "perfect scenario" for him, for a couple of reasons.

"I knew that once free agency started, I wanted to work something out [with the Ravens] if we could," Henry said. "Even though I'm living in Dallas and Dallas being a perfect situation as well because we lived there and wouldn't have to move."

But Henry said he never heard from Dallas, oddly enough, considering running back is one of the top priorities for the Cowboys this offseason after the departure of Tony Pollard to ... ironically ... the Tennessee Titans.

"I'm happy I'm going somewhere where they're hungry for it and they're right on the cusp," Henry added. "They're trying to win it. And being so close and losing that game to Kansas City, I know they're hungry, I know they're going to come in with the right mindset and let's get to it."

Henry joins a Ravens team that was ousted of the AFC playoffs at home by the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the conference title game. And a team whose quarterback - league MVP Lamar Jackson - led the team in rushing yards last season.

I'm betting that won't be the case in 2024.
