On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Rams made one of their most important signings of the offseason official.

Former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White is officially a member of Los Angeles’ secondary, stepping in as a starter opposite fellow free-agent signing Darious Williams.

While any infusion of talent is helpful, it’s difficult to judge the merit of an offseason acquisition without knowing the full details of the contract. In a salary cap league, guarantees, void years, and dead money can help explain why certain teams make the moves they do.

Per Over the Cap, Rams fans now know the full extent of White’s contract.

His deal is worth $4.25 million for one season. In turn, his cap charge for the coming season is $3.485 million.

White will see $3.25 million in guaranteed money – $1.5 million of guaranteed salary and a signing bonus worth $1.75 million. The rest of White’s potential earnings lie in $1 million worth of per-game roster bonuses, which he is expected to hit.

The former first-round pick currently owns the 38th-largest contract for NFL cornerbacks this season.

White, while relatively inexpensive, doesn’t come without risk. He’s entering his age-29 season and coming off an Achilles injury -- his second major leg ailment. While signing White, Williams, and safety Kamren Curl to prevent the explosives that struck Los Angeles secondary in 2023, but sapped athleticism could quickly render his stay in Inglewood a short one.

White looked good in his limited action last season, racking up 11 tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup.

Expect White to be penciled in as an outside corner, though his signing won’t prevent Los Angeles from considering a cornerback in the NFL Draft. A dynamic addition to the secondary has been a frequent target in mock drafts, though the signing could push the position to the later rounds or its interest into the slot.
