Houston Texans Restructure Stefon Diggs Deal After Trade, Making Him Free Agent in 2025

The Houston Texans possess arguably the league's best wide receiver corps following their trade for Stefon Diggs with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday.

On Thursday, that trade became official, with Diggs passing his physical, and the Texans announcing the deal.

Now, according to reports, the Texans have made another salary cap-savvy move with his contract in order to increase their future financial flexibility.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Texans have restructured Diggs' deal, wiping out the last three years of his contract, and moving the $3.5 million of guaranteed he was set to be owed next season, onto his current contract.

With this adjustment, Diggs will earn a raise and make $22.5 million guaranteed in 2024. The newly structured deal will also make Diggs an unrestricted free agent in the offseason of 2025.

Diggs will now be the highest paid player on the roster in 2024 in terms of base salary. Per Over the Cap, offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil carries the highest cap number for Houston at $25.85 million.

Before the deal, Diggs was set to earn $18.5 million of guaranteed money in 2024.

Diggs comes to the Texans as the latest addition in a stellar list of personnel moves, that has seen them add a 1,000-yard rusher (Joe Mixon), 100-catch receiver (Diggs), and 10-sack edge rusher (Danielle Hunter) to their roster, making them the first franchise in NFL history to do so in a single offseason.

Diggs had at least 100 catches in each of the last four seasons with the Bills, including 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023.
