Brandon Aiyuk Unfollows 49ers on Social Media

Is it time to freak out?

All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has unfollowed the San Francisco 49ers on Instagram. This is a message to the 49ers with contract negotiations up in the air between the two sides.

Aiyuk is due for a lucrative extension, but will most likely not have any serious traction made until at least another few months. That is just how the 49ers operate for whatever reason. I'm sure unfollowing the 49ers will really make them scared with negotiations.

Or, it is simply Aiyuk knowing people are watching his social media and wants to create a buzz. Aiyuk has already admitted before that he likes to have fun on social media by creating a stir. That is what led him to send a tweet in regards to Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin when it was "rumored" that Aiyuk being traded to the Steelers as a possibility.

For whatever reason, NFL players LOVE to unfollow their teams on social media when they are due for a contract extension. It has been a weird trend for the last several years, and every time these players get asked about it they just give vanilla answers about "social media cleansing" or whatever hilarious excuse they have.

The reality is these players know fans are going to be up in arms. Nothing, absolutely nothing conducted on social media will have a sliver of an impact on getting contract negotiations moving. It is all a farce to mess and troll with people, which just goes to show what the NFL offseason has turned into.

Don't fall for the trap and be patient.
